HELLO, RADIANT SPIRIT.
I'm Jenny Merkey, the woman behind Heart Illuminating Reiki™, although I certainly didn't begin my life expecting to say that.
I'm a wife, a fiercely loving mom to four grown children, a completely smitten grandma, a lifelong question-asker, and someone who has discovered that life becomes remarkably interesting when you're willing to admit there may be more going on than what you can see.
My journey into this world didn't begin with Reiki.
It began with my son.
THE CONVERSATION THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING.
About thirteen years ago, I came home after a long day and walked through the garage door to find my son waiting for me.
He was pale.
“We need to talk.”(Every mother knows those are not particularly comforting words.)
Then he told me something I wasn't prepared for.
He could see people who had passed away.
They were coming to him. Some were asking for help. And he was frightened because he didn't understand what was happening or what he was supposed to do with it.
My immediate internal response was somewhere between The Sixth Sense and Is there a handbook for this?
There wasn't.
So we started asking questions.
And that one conversation opened a doorway I have never really closed.
DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE
I found a medium. I started learning. My children and I began exploring this strange, beautiful world together.And then I found Reiki.
I booked my first session having absolutely no idea what I was walking into.And afterward?
Well...down the rabbit hole I went.
One question became another. One class led to the next. Curiosity became study. Study became experience. And somewhere along the way, what began as an attempt to understand my son's world began awakening something within my own.
Years later, I'm still asking questions.
Still learning.
Still surprised.
Still occasionally thinking, What in the world is happening now?
And I wouldn't change it.
AND THEN CAME HIR
Eventually, my journey led somewhere I couldn't have anticipated, to the receiving and creation of The Heart Illuminating Reiki™.
HIR became a weaving together of everything I had been exploring: Reiki, energy, sacred symbolism, intuition, sound, spiritual connection, the natural world and, above all, the heart.
Within the spiritual lineage of HIR, I understand its beginnings as something received rather than invented a sacred body of work connected with Mary Magdalene and Christ, with the presence of Mother Mary, Grandmother Mary and the Archangels woven into its story.
What arrived became something I felt called to honor, practice and eventually share.
And somehow, the woman who once wondered whether there was a handbook for all of this found herself creating one.
Literally.
WHAT I KNOW NOW
I don't believe we're meant to have every answer.
I think we're meant to remain curious enough to notice the questions.
To listen.
To experience.
To love.
To remember that there may be more within us, and connecting us, than we have allowed ourselves to imagine.
My children still inspire me. My family still grounds me. Life still surprises me. And I am still happily wandering through this mysterious world, helping people, animals, plants, and probably the occasional insect, whenever I'm invited.
And yes, I'm still singing Amazing Grace.
Only in the shower.

A FEW THINGS I’VE COME TO BELIEVE
The heart knows more than we give it credit for. Curiosity can be sacred. Love is its own kind of intelligence. We are more connected than we realize. Not everything meaningful needs to be explained. And there is always more to discover.
Perhaps remembering begins simply by becoming willing to listen.
Where love is. Where all is possible.®
WHAT I KNOW NOW
After all these years of learning, exploring, questioning and wandering down more rabbit holes than I could possibly count, I’ve realized something:
I don’t need to know everything.
In fact, I’m pretty sure the moment I think I have something figured out, life lovingly hands me another question.
What I do know is that curiosity has changed my life.
I’ve learned to trust the little nudges. To listen when something feels meaningful. To leave room for what I can’t explain. To stay open to the possibility that there is far more happening within us, and around us, than we may ever completely understand.
I believe love matters.
Connection matters.
The heart matters.
And sometimes the most beautiful thing we can do is soften enough to receive what has been there all along.
I’m still learning. Still exploring. Still occasionally wondering, What in the world is happening now?
And truthfully?
I hope I always am.
Because perhaps this journey was never about arriving.
Perhaps it was always about remembering, unfolding and becoming curious about what comes next.
